The Formula For Success – Terumah 5783

To accomplish Success in an endeavor and in life takes a lot of work. Overnight success does not exist. When you hear someone who is an overnight success, that “success” took at least 10 years in the making. Success comes because of hard work, dedication, persistence, mastery and of course a little help from Heaven.

Parsha Terumah sends a clear message of this concept, if you want to get things done, do the work. It starts when God says,

“make Me a sanctuary and I will dwell in amongst them. according to all that I show you, the pattern of the Mishkan and the pattern of all its vessels; and so shall you do.”

And the list begins of all they have to do to build the tabernacle. From gathering objects, to the giving of materials, to exerting themselves and doing to the utmost. The Parsha is covered with details on how to go about this. Minute details. Once God’s will was stated, the instructions cover the whole Parsha.

A key component for achieving success is purpose. God’s purpose was to dwell amongst us, he communicated his will. So, we do. When we embark on a mission, a career or business, we must ask, what is the purpose of this work? What will it accomplish? How will it make the world better? Who will it serve? When those answers are clear, the work will have a direct route to success. We are driving by purpose, purpose is our motivation, and through it we will find persistence. Because the road to success takes effort.

3 Key Components to Achieve Success

Success takes time and is hard work because there are many details in the process steps, just as there was to build the tabernacle. To achieve success we must take risk. Take risk to start a new business. Risk in starting a career path. This first step takes courage and a willingness to go outside of our comfort zone.

After the plunge of risk taking, we will be greeting with obstacles. Internal or external obstacles such as fear of failure or self-doubt. Others might be sticking to a schedule due to family obligations or obstacles we face because of competitors. The key to overcoming these obstacles is no other than perseverance and consistency. You want to make something happen, stay the course. Do as the Israelites did, gather and do.

To achieve success in any field in life, whether is sports, academic, or the arts requires practice to acquire skill and knowledge. This practice will get you to achieve mastery and have an insight on the topic. The pondering and doing over and over builds the mastery. An essential aspect of success.

Parsha Terumah reminds us to build a structure of divinity takes a willingness and the act of doing. For us to build a space for God to dwell in, will take a lot of effort, time, resources, and building of relationships. By staying the course and focusing on the goal we will achieve success.
